From EFrontWiki

The Administrator is responsible for the system parameterization, to build the organisation of the courses, to activate new users, to validate the assignment of lessons to users and in general to administer the platform.

Contents

[edit] Basic system parameterization

The first duty of the administrator is to adapt the system to the needs of his organization/company. Below is a small list of the thinks he can parameterize:

  • Installation logo
  • Allowed IP addresses from where the system can be accessed
  • LDAP support (if needed)
  • System registration issues. Can student enroll automatically? Should be able to register themselves?
  • The default system language and support for more than one language
  • External email account

  • User profile customization

[edit] Lessons/Courses management

The Administrator is responsible for creating new lessons, directions and courses. He is also responsible for assigning lessons to users and tracking user requests to enter the system and be given new lessons. For more on course management go to the Lessons/Courses management page.

[edit] Categories management

Categories are used to organize our lessons and courses in different levels. Each category can have as many subcategories as we need to use. All lessons and courses have to belong to a category. Therefore, the management of the categories is crucial for the educational procedure.

In order to create a new category, the administrator clicks on the relevant function from his main menu.

We type a category name and then we have to define whether it is going to be a father category or if it is going to be a subcategory.

[edit] User management

The administrator can create new users of any type and assign lessons or courses to them. He can also create new types of users with more or less privilages. For more on user management check the User management page.

[edit] Groups management

User groups can aggregate users according to arbitrarily defined, common characteristics.

eFront Educational and eFront Enterpise extend the usage of groups to support mapping between groups and lessons and the usage of unique group-keys for self-registration. You can find more information concerning the User Groups by following this link Groups management .

[edit] Communicate

The system offers several communication tools. Some of them can be administrated and not only used by the administrator, such as the forum and the chat tools.

The communication tools of eFront are:

  • System announcements (Administrator is the only person able to add announcements concerning the hole system and all of its users.)
  • Messages/eMail
  • Forum
  • Chat
  • Calendar

You can find more information about the usage of the communication tool by visiting this page Quick guide , at the relevant chapter.

[edit] Modules

Modules are additional components that extent eFront's functionality. Several modules are already bundled with the main eFront's installation (e.g, Forum, Surveys etc). More modules can be installed through the module interface that is available to the administrator. For more check the Modules documentation.
