GradebookTable of contents
The Gradebook module provides complete handling of students' grades. In a nutshell, professors can determine which lesson's objects (e.g tests, projects, etc.) affect the overall grade of a particular student. On the other side, students can observe their grades per lesson and understand the way these grades are calculated by each professor. AdministratorAn administrator is responsible for matching scores, in the range between 1 to 100, to grades of type Pass, Fail, A, B, C, etc. For example, the administrator can determine that a score which is bigger than 90 and less than 95 corresponds to grade A. Clicking on the module button in the administrator's control panel, the administrator will see a list of all existing ranges, as shown below:
Note that, the above ranges are explicitly defined by the administrator (they are not predefined). To add a new range, the administrator must simply click on the Add range link and fill in the fields as shown in the form below:
As a rule, each range is left and right closed. ProfessorThe professor simply has to enter the administration option within the specific lesson he wants to add Gradebook, and enable the Gradebook module by clicking on it and ensuring it has changed from a shadow to a bold option. Clicking on the module button in the professor's control panel, the professor will see a table like the one below:
In the first column there are listed the names of lesson's students. The next five columns represent the objects that affect the overall grade of each student in the corresponding lesson. Column named Score shows the score of each student. Score is calculated as the average of all scores in each object, taking into account their weights. If the score in a particular object is empty, then this object does not affect the overall score. The next column represents the grade of each student and is calculated based on the previous score and the ranges that the administrator has defined, as explained in the previous chapter. The last column determines if the grade book of this lesson can be accessed by each student. To calculate score and grade, the professor must simply click on the Compute Score/Grade link. To add a new object, the professor must click on the Add column object link and fill in the fields as shown in the form below:
In this form, the professor has to supply the object name and weight and the referrer point of the new object. Each object may refer to lesson's tests, SCORM tests, projects, progress and to real world items, such as a class test. After the submission of the form a new object/column is added to the main table of the module. By clicking on the green arrow in the right side of the object name, the scores for this object will be fetched and assigned to each student. Note that this option is only available to objects that refer to lesson's tests, SCORM tests, projects, progress and not to real world items. Professor is free to edit all scores, by supplying an integer value in the desired text field or leaving it empty and then clicking the green check button on the right side of the field. Gradebook module offers the possibility to export the above table to Excel file. Also, professor can export to Excel the grade book of all his lessons where the module is installed. In the latter case, each grade book is stored in a separate sheet. As a last functionality, the professor can switch to the grade book of another lesson that belongs to him and the module has been activated for that lesson. StudentStudents can observe their grade book at the related lesson page (as long as the professor has installed the module for that lesson and also has published the grade book). Students, also, can view the grade-book of all their lessons where the module is installed and the grade book is published. Additionally, the grade book can be exported to an Excel file. A sample grade book page for a student who is observing his grades on his lesson is shown below:
