Groups management
From EFrontWiki
User groups can aggregate users according to arbitrarily defined, common characteristics. User groups horizontal to the system and not linked to any particular lesson. A user can belong simultaneously to any number of groups. By defining a user group one can send a message directly to all group members, assign them specific lessons and perform several other functions.
User groups are created from the corresponding link of the "Users" menu. The only required pieces of information for defining a new user group are its name and the description of the group, which is a free-text description of the group. Administrators may assign users to groups through the "User groups" tab from the users management page
eFront Educational and eFront Enterpise extent the usage of groups to support mapping between groups and lessons and the usage of unique group-keys for self-registration. Below we include a few screenshots that illustrate this functionality.
[edit] Group Keys
For each group, the administrator is able to define a unique group key, either by himself or by using the relevant button to generate automatically a key for the group. The key is unique for the specific group.
Under the "Unique Group Key" field, there is the field "Maximum Key Uses".Setting this field to a value greater than zero, will delimit the number of times the group key can be used by users to self-register to this group. If the field is set to zero, then no such limit will be enforced.
This unique group key can be provided to users to enable them to register themselves to a particular group by clicking the key icon on the login page.
