Starting with version 3.5.1 eFront supports an advanced Lesson parameterization subsystem. This module allows the professor to activate/deactivate, re-arrange and select default appearance for each lesson's visual widgets (modules). In this small tutorial I will show you how to use the new modules and the brand new layout subsystem to create a unique default lesson dashboard for your students.

[edit] Modules

eFront v3.5.1 introduced 11 new modules in an effort to facilitate the modules creation. Developers may use the provided modules as a quick-start guide for building their own modules. Extended documentation is offered as well for modules creation (http://www.efrontlearning.net/eFront_modules.pdf) or through the Forum at http://forum.efrontlearning.net

In order to install and activate a module you may use the following easy steps:

How to install a module: a) Download it b) Enter your eFront installation as Administrator and go to modules option c) Import the module

Depending on its nature a module may add options to left-side menu or even to Administrator's menu. For example, the DimDim module add's a menu to Administrator from which he may set up the DimDim Server.

[edit] Layout option

The Layout option is used in conjunction with the "Lesson options" option that activate/deactivate modules. The Layout shows only activated lessons widgets and allows you to drag and drop or open/close the widgets. This way you can setup an initial dashboard for the students of this lesson. Note that the student by default see's only the modules that have content. Furthermore, the student can override the default lesson structure and rearrange the modules the way he prefers them.
